Why do I need an ODS?

We advice you to always use an ODS (Operational Data Store) between your source(s) data and your Data Warehouse.

Advantages of using an ODS

• You can have a copy of your source(s) data without troubles for accessing your source(s) (Access to source data may cause delays in the use of the source application during data uploads).
• You can centralize the historization of the data (SCD2) in the ODS and use really what you need in your Data warehouse (Sometimes historized data, sometimes only current data).
• You can generate, deploy and load your DWH easily because all is stored in your ODS (mainly historized data).
